The blog is the most versatile and user-friendly place on Multiply. If you have a recent version of the most common browsers (Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, IE) you should see a toolbar just below the item title that allows you to modify the text style and do other things in your entry. The toolbar looks like this (click to enlarge): I will explain what the buttons labeled with numbers in the above pic do: 1. You can add a pic to your blog entry. When you click on it, it will display another window where you can choose to import a pic from your computer (upload it), use one from one of your albums (Photos entries) or from somewhere in the Internet: After that, you should see a box where you can choose the justification: left, center or right. Click on the one you want to use and the image is added to your post. Tip: if you add an image to the beginning of the entry and align it to the right or to the left, a thumbnail will be displayed in your homepage after you publish the entry if your Blog box is set to 'Summary' view. 2. When you click on the checkbox named 'Edit HTML' you can see the HTML code used in the entry. Then you can fine tune your entry if you want or you can add those widgets from the web, like a slideshow, a movie or even a song player. Sites like YouTube and Slide give an EMBED code that you can use at other places (Multiply does it too: click on the share link found in most posts), and you can add it to your blog entries after you click on 'Edit HTML': just find the spot you want to place it and paste the code. Another tip: you can compose an blog entry, click on 'Edit HTML', copy the code and then paste it anywhere in Multiply, like in your other entries and replies. Think of it like an HTML editor, where you create your stuff and then get the code to paste where you don't have these handy tools. 3. The paper-clip allows you to add attachments to your blog entry. The file will be listed below the entry for downloading. Great for sharing PDF, PPT, PPS files etc. You can add up to 5 attachments to a blog entry. The rest of the buttons in the toolbar are self-explanatory, just mouse over them and wait a bit to see what they do, like the icon to the left of the paper-clip is for adding polls to your blogs. Hope this helps. Happy Multiplying.
 | Thanks for the tips ...right on about user friendly still playing around with it, did not know about image ... I usually center align image, thanks again |
 | Thanks. Now paint me picture (keep it simple) of the following: when I want to put a link in a blog (not a picture or movie or ---), do I tick that "edit html" box or not? I had some trouble with links lately. |
 | lfom wrote on Nov 3, '07, edited on Nov 3, '07 Thanks. Now paint me picture (keep it simple) of the following: when I want to put a link in a blog (not a picture or movie or ---), do I tick that "edit html" box or not? I had some trouble with links lately. Select the word(s) you want to link in the text using your mouse pointer and then click on the link button (just beside the photo button) to add the URL. No need to click on Edit HTML, unless you want to do it manually or add a pre-made code, of course... |
 | I don't think that's what I mean - or I don't get you. I want to link to e.g. a wikipedia article by writing <*a href="blah-blah"*>here<*/a*> (without the *, of course), so that people can click on "here", which hopefully has turned blue. I know how to get the blah-blah = URL. It used to work fine without ticking that box, but last time it suddenly didn't. What am I doing wrong? I don't understand which words in text you mean I shall select. |
 | lfom wrote on Nov 3, '07, edited on Nov 3, '07 For example, you have this in your blog entry: Click here to visit the online encyclopedia. and you want to link the word 'here' to http://wikipedia.org. Then you must first select the word here in your text like you would do in any other program to highlight the word and then click on the link button. When the drop-down window appear, enter the URL http://wikipedia.org. It will then look like this: Click here to visit the online encyclopedia. Got it now? |
 | Yep - got it. Thanks a lot, this is much easier. |
 | What would we do without you Ifom ;) |
 | Thanks very much. Mhwaaaaa...... |
 | Another tip: you can compose an blog entry, click on 'Edit HTML', copy the code and then paste it anywhere in Multiply, like in your other entries and replies. Think of it like an HTML editor, where you create your stuff and then get the code to paste where you don't have these handy tools. I have noticed that there is no "cut" command when you highlight and right click on selected text when in "Compose Blog Entry".
The menu that comes up on right click is the "Back, Forward, Save background, etc." one NOT the"Undo, Cut, Copy, etc." menu that appears when I post elsewhere, on here at "Compose Reply" for example.
Any idea why this is?
I find it annoying as I can't "Cut" and "Paste" to an English English spell check if I start adding a Blog directly on here. I end up with "Color" for "Colour" etc. |
 | Your browser should have copy, cut, paste, it is not related to the toolbar showed here... Just use the browser menus or shotcuts (for example, CONTROL+C on Windowze or COMMAND+C on Mac to copy). |
 | quickdraw26 wrote on Nov 15, '07, edited on Nov 15, '07 when I try to put a picture in my blog I go to check it and the picture isn't there. how do I fix this? And after I click align left, align right, or align center it takes me back to my blog but wont let me add any more text. Can somebody help? I'm kinda new to this.(I tried putting the text in first to see if that was the problem but the picture still wouldn't show up when I went to view my blog) |
 | hmmm, i've heard of this happening before but i don't remember what the solution was. i wonder if it has anything to do with the file type of the picture. what kind of picture was it? (jpg? gif? png?) did you load it from another site or from your computer? |
 | I tried them both. Loading from the site and from my computer nothing seems to work. as for the file type I'm not sure.(it wont let me upload a pic for my headshot either) "Ugh what a drag!" |
 | well that answer 1 ?. none of those buttons shows for me. wonder if i can put links in a email to get to the buttons. thats what i have to do for custom and layout. |
 | Thank you very very very much!! It worked for me... |
 | Question about cross posting with blogger. If the blogger blog has more than me as a member... how do I get only MY posts to show up and not every tom dick and harry who belongs to the blogger blog on my multiply blog? |
 | I get booted off every time I try to put a picture iin a blog entry, what will cause that. |
 | I had finished composing a blog entry and clicked on the draft button to edit it. However I got disconnected (my ISP is presently undergoing restoration and the connection fluctuates). When I got back online, I couldn't find the draft of my blog. How do I retrieve it? |
 | lfom wrote on Jan 22, edited on Jan 22 I guess you can't: if it's not saved as draft in your Blogs page it's gone... A good and quick way to prevent this is clicking on the 'remember me' box when you sign in (remember to logout if you use a public computer) and/or copy the entry before you press the publish or save as draft button. |
 | I tried adding an image to my blog, when i click on that, and click on "add from computer",it just loads and then blank...I cant get to the part where it ask u to "align left or right"...I had no problems with this before..been trying the past 2 weeks, still the same...any solution? Thanks:) |
 | Did you try resetting your browser (empty the cache/delete cookies) or another browser? If you don't use it yet, try using Firefox, it works best wiht Multiply. |
 | How to add video to blog? |
 | Get the EMBED code (if it's a video you published on Multiply, click on the share link below the post), create a blog entry, click on 'Edit HTML' and then paste the code. |
 | multiply change the amount of pictures you can put in a blog - only 3 images!!!
i'm also missing the features of changing the background, text etc.....what happened??? |
 | Use an updated version of IE or Firefox. It does not work with Safari, Opera and old browsers. |
 | i noticed that most of the pics i post up on my blog are rather small (wordings can't be read). even when my friends click on the pics to view the bigger format, it doesn't load the bigger pic. is there a function to fix this? |
 | It should load the hi-rez pic after clicking on it... Do you have a link to a post where it happens? |
 | when i click on the pic it gets larger, but not large enough to make a flyer from.
another option might be to load it to an album. although it shouldn't have been downsized in a blog post, it definitely won't be in an album. (well, it will, but when you click on the numbers under the pic it'll open to full size. or you can right click and select "view image.") |
 | the funny thing is, when i click on it [while logged in], i could see the bigger "flyer" form. *scratch head*
but when i click on it as a reader [not logged in], it is the down-sized form. it's not just for this post in my blog. in fact, for all the pictures i've put up in my blog. funny... =\ |
 | The original image size isn't 266x400 pixels? That's what I get when I try to view the image. |
 | nope, original size i uploaded from my computer is 600 X 900 pixels. |
 | Did you add (upload) the picture from your computer directly to te blog? Are you using Firefox or IE to compose your blog entries? Do you see the three option when you click on the add photo button on the toolbar? |
 | yes, i uploaded the picture from my computer directly to the blog. i am using IE to upload it. and yes, i see the 3 options your computer, a multiply album, the web]. |
 | i've had some problem with uploading pics...
well not really uploading, but when i add a picture with a left alignment and add text to it below, when i view it from my blogs section, the text appears on the lower right side of it.
any way to help me?? thanks |
 | Have you tried using Firefox? Maybe it will help... |
 | sure does help a lot, great tut |
 | Okay... i have had my site since June 2007, i use Safari 2.0 on an eMac, 2 days ago i was updating my blog and it was not posting- now i know the reason, i have no plans to use Firefox, i like Safari it's very stable. In addition to this, my music does not play, i have no visitor counter, i can only see my 3D art in Safari and my Windoze friends cannot, and the guestbook is dead. I think i'm going to leave Multiply, there are many other free webhosts out there, it seems Multiply is MAC UNFRIENDLY , i'm not impressed at all.
|
 | Safari 2.0 is very old. You can try the lastest WebKit version at webkit.org. Also make sure you have the latest Flash and QuickTime plugins. |
 | Sorry maybe most people want their photo to looks bigger when they are clicked (viewing the original size).. in my case i want my photo remain the same size as it was in the blog (not viewing the original size) what should i do to make it that way? Or is there any way to make my picture in the blog can't be clicked by another user (to see the original size) ?? Thx for ur answer^^ |
 | hey thanks for sharing.... |
 | im having problems embedding videos or music from imeem in my blog. i've read somewhere that i need to click on the edit html box first before i paste the codes into the area where we type the blogs. i did just that but still, the videos do not appear. the codes just come out as texts and not the actual video or music. help? thanks! |
 | Try to paste the code in a comment somewhere. If it works, you are doing something wrong while composing the blog entry... |
 | hi luiz. need your advise on something. usually i never have problem in uploading images to my blog. however, last week (after more than one month absence in blogging) i kept on failing to upload image in my latest blog. the weird thing was that it went okay during the compose/ edit mode (i did the usual procedure of selecting image from my computer, align right, the image was successfully displayed on the draft box), but then when i clicked the publish button, the image disappeared -- and so did all of the other images in my previous blogs, AND my shared pictures! what did i do wrong? please, please help me and thanks so much in advance!

 | Hi! I hope you can help me out. I've posted many blogs on Multiply before, but today when I tried to post on both my personal site, chenocetah, and a craft group that I belong to, no icons show up so can't post any pictures. I am using the latest version of Firefox and have Zone Alarm Security Suite. Thanks for any advice you can give me. |
 | Make sure Zone Alarm (and other softwares) aren't blocking Multiply content. You can disable it temporally to make a test. Also, make sure JavaScript is enabled and you are using the latest version of your browser (Firefox 3 was released today). |
 | Ad blockers and jammed temp files can cause the blog icons not to show also. |
