Getting the Most out of Multiply

by Jens for everyone
It is possible to have quite a lot of HTML in the text you type in multiply, but as HTML is not that easy to learn, I thought I'd tell you how I do it. I use Mozilla Firefox, I am not sure if this works with other browsers.

When I have saved a photo in an album I mark with the mouse the thumbnail photo then i right-click the mouse and select "View selection source", and I can see the HTML source, Normally I only want the image and the link that it bring with it so I look for the <A href="..."> <IMG src="..."> </A> part of the html. I then also use the <TABLE> and its associated <TH>, <TR> and <TD> in order to make the layout look nicer.

To see how I can make nice entries check out my top ten volcano visits image gallery, where each entry has several links to other photos taken at that location

When posting new photos on multiply it is now no longer possible to right-click them to see the thumbnail and its image link, they have done this by not showing the thumbnail as a thumbnail but rather as the background while the image shown is just a nothing.

To make things even more tricky multiply will have all thumbnails of the album in one image. and then using offset in that image to display each thumbnail as if it was only one image. The advantage of this approach is that it will be a bit faster to load as you do not have to load many photos but rather one and then displaying it again and again with different offset. you can still find the URL of this picture by viewing the HTML-source that is made to show the thumbnail, but it is not that easy. on the left you can see how the thumbnail of my album from the Vasa museum looks:

you are right. Actually Firefox is better to work with the HTML source, but it is possible to do something similar with IE6...
I am curious. How did you typed the HTML code in message without it being executed?
lfom wrote on Jul 6, '06
Using the HTML codes for '<' and '>' = lt and gt (&code;)

Like this:

Alright!!!
Thanks
rogeriototh wrote on Jul 6, '06, edited on Jul 6, '06
Actually just the lt code is enough
mariepk wrote on Jul 6, '06
Very very cool. Keeping this in mind !
jaaho wrote on Jul 7, '06, edited on Jul 7, '06
Yes that is right, that is how I did it but it was tricky because multiply altered the &lt; when I took preview & Spell check, so I had the HTML on a document on the side when I wrote this

Let me know what image you like to link to and I may be able to help you!
ryderaquino wrote on May 23, '07
hey cool! i figured out the linking part! i put in my guestbook if u wanna check it out! one question, how do i resize the image via html code? what i did was uploaded the image to imageshack then chose a resolution from that site. was just wondering if you could do it via html, like say 'reduce by 50%' or something. thanks!
jaaho wrote on May 23, '07, edited on May 23, '07
You can set the width of an image using the tags width="150"
e.g.<img src="http://images.multiplynewbie.multiply.com/logo/2" width="150" height="50">
but that is just HTML what I did was take a link inside multiply and using the smaller image that is associated with the link, if you are going to link to images outside of multiply, making a smaller version of the images is a better idea as then people with slow internet connection will only have to load the smaller images instead of loading a large image even if it is made smaller so they only see a small image

jaaho wrote on Aug 25, '07, edited on Aug 25, '07
I am not sure how this is related to this post, anyway you may go tohttp://multiply.com/setup/pages/themes after you logged in to multiply in order to change your theme
jaaho wrote on Aug 25, '07, edited on Aug 26, '07
Click customize my site then you can edit at the upper left corner of the profile box. there you can add pictures linking to other pages much the same way as you do when writing text to your pages.

If you do not want to have the photo on multiply you can use other places to put it, for example http://www.tinypic.com/; here is an example:

<A href="http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?s=tulip">
<IMG src="http://i17.tinypic.com/6c7gkkz.jpg">
<br>

I used Teletype to indicate the part you type in and I used three dots "..." for the parts where you instead of the dots type the web-address to an image or to a web-page you want to display or link to..

it seems you forgot the <a href=" ..."> </a>part in the thing you added, but if your aim only was to include an external picture then it worked quite nicely.

How come the photo can't show?
Only show the link. :(

Note : Finally i manage to do liao. Thanks

jaaho wrote on Jan 13, edited on Jan 13
That is because you have a reference to the page were the image can be seen and not to the actuall image:

his is what you have:
http://cheuleng.multiply.com/photos/album/16#97

but what you should have instead is
http://images.cheuleng.multiply.com/image/24/photos/16/500x500/97/DSC02057.JPG?et=uXoxuiDnjTP%2B0jfCMgZEtA&nmid=41420205

Sorry, i still don't understand. Maybe i so stupid to this.....
If i want to put this photo like you post at the reply, the size is not this original size, only small size.
How to put the link?
Give me a sample ( Try to use my photo album photo )
Thanks.

jaaho wrote on Jan 14, edited on Jan 14
Then you need first to create the link and make it refer to the big size photo:http://cheuleng.multiply.com/photos/album/16#97 like this:
<a href="http://cheuleng.multiply.com/photos/album/16#97">
then you need to add the image that is refering to the miniature sample of the photo:
http://images.cheuleng.multiply.com/image/24/photos/16/1200x120/97/DSC02057.JPG?et=%2B0cAkywHSdi181oRoDGp%2CA&nmid=41420205
<img src="http://images.cheuleng.multiply.com/image/24/photos/16/1200x120/97/DSC02057.JPG?et=%2B0cAkywHSdi181oRoDGp%2CA&nmid=41420205">
and finally a closing with the </A>

this is how it should look:

Good luck!

confused hope someone can help me i just got photobucket and dont undrestand and dont know how to put photobucket here on my page so that i can add photos when i comment on my friends page thanxs
lfom wrote on Feb 14
Simply get the HTML code from PhotoBucket (or any other service), copy and paste it in your posts. You will see the code while you are composing your reply, but after it's submitted you should see the image instead of the code.
PS: you can host your images on Multiply, then click on the share link below the images and get the embed code to use in your comments or posts.
mraugust wrote on Feb 14
thanxs fer ur imput i'll have someone show me how to copy and paste
lfom wrote on Feb 14
Select the code (highlight it), use the keys CONTROL+C to copy and CONTROL+V to paste, or 'right click' with your mouse to get a contextual menu and use the appropriate command (copy and paste).

Look at this tutorial:

PS: please don't use the thread for testing, you can do a preview to see how it looks like, but don't save. Please remove the big images. Thanks.

You shold refe to a smaller version of the phot in the <IMG SRC="smallimage.jpg"> part of your post, then in the <A HREF="linktopage.html"> part you enter an addres to the page you want to link to, in most
